Reading Pullbacks in Strong Trends

How to judge whether a pullback is healthy continuation or the start of a structure break — without overcomplicating the chart.

A strong trend rarely moves in a straight line. Pullbacks are where many traders lose conviction — either exiting too early or adding size into a genuine reversal. The first job is to define what “healthy” looks like for the market you trade.

In an uptrend, a healthy pullback typically holds above the most recent swing low and shows declining selling pressure on momentum tools. Volume often contracts on the pullback and expands again when price resumes. If price undercuts the prior swing low and momentum confirms with a fresh low on your oscillator of choice, treat that as a structure warning, not a bargain.

Practise marking the last two swing points before every session. Write one sentence on whether the pullback still respects them. That single habit filters a surprising amount of noise.
